Coconuts

As part of our Pasifika topic we have been looking at coconuts. This week we opened and ate the flesh of a green coconut and a mature one. We also drank the water. The pictures show what we found.

Fonterra Milk

On the 20th of August a worker called Kirsty came from Fonterra to talk to us about the milk for schools program.
All schools are getting a fridge and milk carton recycling bins. She showed a 12 minute video that taught us how to fold an empty milk carton and not to squeeze the carton or the milk will come splattering out onto our faces!!!
The truck would come down to the school and drop of the fridge, our first milk cartons & our recycling bins.
The Year 5s are going to teach the whole school how to fold the milk cartons & then the school will start a MCS Fonterra milk for  schools program.

Thanks & GO FONTERRA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yum, yum - Ika mata. by Dev and Tui

Yum yum, today we made Ika mata, which is Cook Island Maori for raw fish.
First we washed the fish and cut the delicious fresh fish in to tiny bits and put them in a glass bowl.
Then we cut up some lemons and lime and squeezed the juice out of them and tipped it into the raw fish. We left the fish to marinate for about an hour.
After that we cut up a few spring onions and chucked them in the bowl with the raw fish.
Next we opened a can of coconut cream and poured some of the cream in to the fish. Remember a bit of salt!
We stirred it up, most people in the class thought it was delicious!

EBIS Polyclub Visit

On Wednesday 14th August, the Evan's Bay EBIS Polyclub came to visit Miramar Central School.
They showed us three performances. The first one was a song, the second one was a dance with actions, and the last one was a clapping song. Once they had showed us the performances, we got into groups of five. The EBIS Polyclub taught us how to do a bit of the clapping song. After we had learnt the clapping song, everyone did it all together. It sounded really good. Then they said goodbye, to us, and they left. The EBIS Polyclub visit was very fun, and everyone enjoyed it.

Earthquake - Wellington

During the holidays there was a 6.5 earthquake in Wellington. When we got back to school we all wrote about what it was like to feel this big quake.

#######

EARTHQUAKE!

Shudder, shudder what do I do?
Quick run, run under a door,
My heart is racing, it feels like
a stampede of Elephants.
AHHH!
6.5, wow that’s big.
I’m glad that’s over…
Shudder, shudder
AFTER SHOCK!

EARTHQUAKE

I was tapping at a keyboard and then there was a sudden jolt. The computer went dead and I instinctively dived under my desk. I shook and shuddered on the ground. I heard the house creaking, threatening to fall down. It shook more violently than ever then it stopped altogether. I cautiously got out from under my desk. My legs were still shaking.

EARTHQUAKE

I was sitting on the couch when a loud noise of rumbling came from beneath me.
I acted wisely, I ran towards the coffee table .
Then I ducked down with my knees against my chest with my hands over my head.
I waited, then I shoved my head out to see if it was safe to come out.
I got out of my position and walked towards the kitchen.
Luckily nothing got damaged.
That was my frighting moment in a violent earthquake.

Earthquake

I felt the earthquake on Sunday. It was during the holidays’ when it happened. The computer started jiggling and the rail around the heater started rattling. I knew it was an earthquake because I saw my friends DVD case moving. We all moved under the doorway. The dog came and snuggled into me. It was terrifying when it was happening. I closed my eyes and blocked my ears so I didn’t hear or see it. It felt like big elephants stomping.

EARTHQUAKE POEM

Last Sunday there was an EARTHQUAKE.
It was so big it made me shake.
Then it smashed one of our plates.
Then my sister just had to faint.
After that we started to jiggle,
Suddenly we stared to wiggle.

Now that is the end of my poem see you soon.

Earthquake

I was reading a book. My brother was playing Lego. My mum was cooking dinner when suddenly the earthquake hit. I dived under the dining table, my brother following after me. We felt shaking & heard rattling. I saw a pen clatter to the ground. Mum joined us under the table. We all gripped the table hard. Then it stopped just as suddenly as it came. Mum checked if it was safe, she said “ its all right the earthquake has stopped “ So we all cautiously crawled out & went back to what we were doing.” Its ended “I thought “ for now “...

EARTHQUAKE!!
I was sitting on the couch watching TV, when suddenly I heard a sort of shaky noise then I
felt the shake. I quickly crawled under the table
and stayed under it . Since the TV was on, I
watched the TV from underneath the table. The
earthquake stopped and I went back on the
couch to watch TV.

EARTHQUAKE!!!

        I felt a ‘’shake’’ then I worried. Then I heard a ‘’rumble’’, I jumped
up, I saw our TV shake side to side, I ran to the door and stood in
the door frame. I waited until it was over. I jumped back onto
the couch and watched more TV.

EARTHQUAKE
The first earthquake was on Friday morning at 8:15 am. I was eating my breakfast with my mum and my brothers. When it was shaking I was sitting in front of TV. My body was shaking and the TV was shaking too. It was bit scary.

IS IT AN EARTHQUAKE?!

I was looking after my baby brother Max when all of
a sudden the telescope started to sway. Curious I
walked over to it. I tried to imagine why it was swaying,
then I felt the ground shaking, the answer popped into my head…earthquake!! I scooped up my brother and stood in the doorway. I felt the ground vibrate under my feet, I heard my dragon statutes shatter as soon as they hit the ground. After about 30 seconds the earthquake stopped.
My dad called and asked if we were OK, we were fine.
